Zinc (II) chloride is an inorganic salt very soluble in water and mostly used in organic synthesis as catalyst and as disinfectant. Zinc chloride is one of the most important industrial salt products that has a very wide range of applications. ZnCl2 is used as Lewis acid catalyst in a wide variety of reactions in organic synthesis. The biggest advantages of ZnCl2 are its low cost, easy to handle, moderate toxicity and broad spectrum acting as a catalyst. Zinc Chloride is a white deliquescent salt that forms acidic solutions in water and in polar organic solvents such as ethanol, acetone and ether.
